Jannik Sinner says he has already put his "amazing" 2024 behind him as he turns his focus to retaining his Australian Open crown.

The world number one secured top spot in the rankings after winning his maiden grand slam title in Melbourne before following it up by winning the US Open and the ATP Finals.

Including the two majors, he won eight ATP-level titles overall in 2024 before capping off a sensational season by helping Italy successfully defend their Davis Cup title.

Sinner reached at least the quarter-finals of all four grand slams last year, becoming the third-youngest man in the Open Era to achieve such a feat (23 years, 17 days). He also won 23 matches overall at majors, at least four more than Carlos Alcaraz in second (19).

The Italian also wrapped up the world-end number one ranking by October 15 and went 37-3 after taking top spot. His 92.5% win rate is the best by any male world number one by some distance, dwarfing Bjorn Borg's 80.4%.

Sinner opted against playing any events in the lead-up to the Australian Open this year but took part in an exhibition match against Alexei Popyrin on Tuesday.

He prevailed 6-4 7-6 (7-2) after coming from 5-2 down in the second set.

"2024 was an amazing season for me, but it has already gone now," said Sinner, speaking after that match.

"So many things have happened for me on this court and off the court.

"I'm very happy to be back, even if it is a kind of exhibition. For us, it's always very important trying to feel the court, the pace.

"In my mind, I know how much work we have put in, which hopefully will give me confidence and we will see how it goes."
